One of the overall goals of the East County Advanced Water Purification Program is to produce 30% of East County’s water at a competitive cost compared to imported water and to control wastewater treatment costs. The results of a completed financial model study found that the program improves long-term wastewater treatment and drinking water costs.

The program is expected to cost $528 million. More than $36 million in grant funding has been secured with more grant applications in progress.
